🌴 Basics

What is a scud?

A scud is a jaunt around the village in a golf cart. It’s a Wheelie Fun way to see Ocracoke!

Why are golf carts so popular on Ocracoke?

Because they’re simply the best way to experience island life. Ocracoke’s village is compact, charming and made for slow cruising. Parking a golf cart in the village is much easier than parking a car.

How do I know where to go?

We’ll give you a map of the village, but if you have questions we are here to help.

🛑 Driving Rules

Can I drive the golf cart on the beach?

No. Golf carts are only permitted on village streets and designated roadways.

Can I drive a golf cart to the airport, NPS campground or pony pens?

No. Golf carts are not allowed past Howard’s Pub, and the airport, campground and pony pens are past the pub.

🔌 Charging

Do I need to charge the cart?

Yes — but it’s easy. Every cart includes a charger, and most guests simply plug in overnight.

How long does a charge last?

Typically about 4 to 6 hours of steady scudding around the village.

⛴️ Ferry & Airport

Do you offer pickup from the passenger ferry?

No, but we are conveniently located near the tram route. From the ferry get on the free tram and we are stop #5.

Absolutely. If you’re flying into the Ocracoke airstrip and renting from us, we will pick you up by car and bring you to Wheelie Fun.

How old do you have to be to drive the carts?

Drivers must have a legal drivers license. No children younger than 16 are allowed to drive the carts.

  • Ages 4 and younger: child safety seat required
